Unlocking engagement: exploring social presence and telepresence in online learning
19 June 2024, 10:00 – 13:00 CET
Join us for a practical workshop focused on improving online social learning experiences through social presence and telepresence. Led by experts in the field, including Emmy Vrieling, Kamakshi Rajagopal, Joshua Weidlich, Derya ORHAN GÖKSÜN, Maartje Henderikx and Karel Kreijns, participants will gain actionable insights and strategies to foster meaningful interaction and engagement in online learning environments. The workshop will begin with a presentation by Joshua Weidlich on their social and telepresence model, followed by an academic-industry panel discussion with Karel Kreijns, Yiannis Georgiou, Tilo Hartmann and Jan Moons . Two parallel workshops follow, one focusing on the regulation of learning in online environments and the other presenting results from an experimental study on social and telepresence. The session will wrap up with reflection and networking opportunities, engaging participants in discussions of findings and fostering collaboration. The day will be facilitated by Emmy Vrieling, Kamakshi Rajagopal and Maartje Henderikx.
In this interactive workshop attendees will have the opportunity to delve into topics such as human interaction, communication modes, data-driven regulation, and supporting technologies. Navigating educational multimedia: strategies for success

Join us for a hands-on session on approaches to multimedia production in Higher Education. Producing multimedia for higher education involves navigating a myriad of possibilities, considerations, and choices. Let’s tackle them together! Prior to the session, you’ll gain new insights into best practices with a sneak peek at the upcoming Multimedia course. During the session, collaborate with colleagues to explore key areas of educational multimedia production, including:
- Balancing engagement with optimising for (knowledge) transfer;
- Effective collaboration between different areas of expertise;
- Making materials that resonate with the viewer;
- Shaping and refining the multimedia production process at your institution;
- To autocue or not to autocue?
By attending, you’ll learn practical strategies for enhancing multimedia content creation, fostering effective collaboration, and refining production processes to meet the needs of your institution.
